Required Qualifications: (as evidenced by an attached resume) Bachelor's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher). One (1) year of full-time experience in a student services office in a college or university setting, i.e. Advising, Financial Aid, Counseling, etc. Experience with financial aid programs. Experience working with computer programs, i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.
Preferred Qualifications: Advanced Degree (foreign degree or higher). Additional years of full-time experience in a student services office in a college or university setting, i.e. Advising, Financial Aid, Counseling, etc. Experience working in a financial aid office. Experience with financial aid automated systems. Financial Aid experience in a SUNY or NY State University.
Brief Description of Duties: As a generalist, the basic function of this position is to provide direct customer service in the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarship Services to students and their families regarding financial aid applications, eligibility, awards, processes, guidelines and standards. This can occur via telephone, e-mail/electronic notification and in person. In addition, the Financial Aid Assistant will provide assistance to the senior staff in the administration of special programs. The Financial Aid Assistant will represent the university at recruitment functions.
The successful incumbent will have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, exercising strong organizational and time-management skills with an exceptional attention to detail. Essential for this role is the adeptness to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem solving.
Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and department mission.
Special Notes: This is a full-time appointment. FLSA non-exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Weekend work will be required at times.
