Description

Provides general financial aid counseling and administration. 
Counsels and advises all School of General Studies students on all areas of the financial aid process and related matters. Serves as primary financial aid counselor for prospective and newly admitted students; maintains a dedicated counseling portfolio of currently enrolled students.
Interacts with the GS Admissions Office and Columbia University Central Administration in assisting current prospective, and newly admitted students with their financial concerns.
Facilitates information sessions, presentations, and workshops for prospective, newly admitted and current students.
Utilizes reporting tools (standard SIS and other ad hoc reports) to track and reconcile federal, institutional, and state financial aid awards. Manages review and reconciliation of periods of enrollment details, outside scholarship payments, and PALS program awards.
Processes FAFSA verifications, budget adjustment request and professional judgments. Reviews student-submitted financial aid documentation for appropriate follow up and required next steps.
Assists in responding to student emails, phone calls, and general inquiries.
Serves as liaison between students, GS Dean of Student Office and Center for Undergraduate Global Engagement to coordinate financial aid awards for Study Abroad programs.
Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and/or its equivalent required. 2 years minimum experience required with specific knowledge of Title IV regulations, and needs analysis; excellent interpersonal and counseling skills required. Must be comfortable with public speaking. Must be detailed oriented, able to maintain high levels of confidentiality, self-motivated, and able to work with minimal daily supervision. Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel required; experience with Student Information System (SIS), PowerFAIDs, and NSLDS desirable, but not absolutely required. Would consider limited financial aid experience replaced with significant interpersonal skills combined with other related analytic experience
