The Director of Financial Aid Services, reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Enrollment Management, is a vital member of the enrollment management team. The successful candidate will be an experienced financial aid professional with visionary leadership, one who is dedicated to delivering uncompromising service to the FIT student and their family. They will be an innovative thinker who has successfully managed organizations and demonstrates the ability to develop professionals within their department.
The Director is responsible for the timely and accurate awarding and disbursement of financial aid (ie. grants, federal student loans, scholarships, fellowships, work-study, and tuition fee waivers). The director provides leadership and direction for the financial aid department with regard to policies, procedures, and operations involved with the awarding and delivery of the federal, state, and institutional financial aid and scholarship programs. As a member of the Division of Enrollment Management, the Director will contribute and participate in the development of the Strategic Enrollment Plan, work within the division to support the cultivation of student enrollment, and further our mission of student success.
With an experienced staff of 22 financial aid professionals, the office administers more than $60 million dollars of aid through a variety of programs. In 2017 - 2018, 48% of FIT undergraduate students receive some form of financial aid. The Director facilitates a high quality, effective, and comprehensive financial aid program responsive to the needs of the students and the campus. The incumbent will:
Lead strategic planning, departmental budgeting, and resource management allocation;
Support and move new initiatives forward; Embrace and apply concepts of continuous quality improvement to assess existing processes and update as needed;
Ensure accurate processing of all aspects of student aid applications
Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and institutional regulations;
Assist students with resolving financial aid difficulties; Oversee all financial aid appeals, income adjustments, dependency overrides, special circumstances and all other professional judgement concerns;
Oversee the counseling of students on eligibility requirements for specific financial aid programs;
Monitor the execution of all processes associated with financial aid/scholarship packaging and eligibility;
Ensure the completion of fiscal reports, and is responsible for all federal, state, and institutional reporting as required for financial aid audit compliance;
Partner with divisional colleagues in the planning, developing, and coordinating of enrollment and retention programs;
Collaborate with information technology, bursar, registrar, and admissions to ensure technological integration. Implements and maintains upgrades to financial aid modules within an Ellucian Banner environment;
Serve on the Institutional Banner Data Governance committee;
Oversee the work of the staff, including staff recruitment, development, and performance evaluations according to contractual guidelines.
A minimum of five to seven years of progressively responsible leadership experience in Financial Aid or related office and a master's degree in higher education administration or a related field. The successful candidate will have direct experience supervising staff, developing positive working relationships with internal and external constituents, as well as a thorough working knowledge of federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs, policies, and reconciliation practices. The successful candidate will be able to show a dedication to embracing best practices in financial aid and enrollment management theory and a record of accomplishment in designing/re-designing systems that deliver the highest caliber experience for their students. The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse population and with those from various cultural backgrounds is a must.
In addition, we are seeking a candidate with a demonstrated ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality, excellent technology skills in a variety of computer applications including databases and student information systems, a proven record of accomplishment with process improvement, and strong communication skills, including effective writing, public speaking, and persuasive competencies.
